Parque Lage

Sometimes I get surprised with myself and cannot understand why  some places in Rio wasn’t part of my childhood.

Parque Lage is one of those places.  When I was a kid, on Sundays my parents used to take the three of us ( I have a brother and a sister) to Aterro do Flamengo to play or ride our bikes while they read the newspaper. I loved to go there but now I admit that I would like to have known Parque Lage when I was a kid.  In a way to compensate this, I started visiting this beautiful park after having my son, and now it is one of the places I really like to go with him.

Although we don’t go too much there anylonger, as we are always preferring to go to the beach, I have been there twice in the last two months. Once, when my sister Quiqui and her family where in Rio visiting us, (check here for her pictures for that day), and the last time, was a couple of weeks ago with my son and his little friends.

Parque Lage is the perfect place to go with kids of any age. They have a playground that can entertain the youngests, but they have so many other attractions for kids of any age, and even for adults. Visiting the caves, walking the trails and making picnics will entertain the whole family. It is also a very beautiful location for a photo shoot and we usually see many photographers and their models shooting in the gardens of Parque Lage. And the best part is to be able to enjoy nature and breath some fresh air in the middle of the city.

Another thing I love about Parque Lage is that as it hosts an art college (EAV – Escola de Artes Visuais) there is always some art exhibition going on inside the mansion of the park.

Inside the mansion, there is also a small coffee shop, which usually is very crowded during the weekends.

But my tip for those who would like to visit Parque Lage is to bring your own snack and make a nice picnic while relaxing in one of the rest areas.

If you are in Rio and plan to visit it, than let me know what did you think!

  1. I agree with you, but going to Aterro was fun too. I can’t also believe that my first time at Parque Lage was last time I was in Rio. Beautiful photos! Xoxo
