Casa Momus, a sophisticated option in Lapa

Last night, me and my husband went out for a happy hour with a couple of friends! It was a special night! My friend, the guy, would introduce us to his fianceé and give us their wedding invitation. I know this guy for 14 years, and although we don’t see too much lately he is a very good friend and I was very happy to know that he is getting married soon. We worked together in two companies and he ended becaming a close friend. Although we have the same age, I consider him almost as an older brother and he was one of the groomsmen on our wedding. So there was plenty of reasons for a happy hour celebration!

We didn’t know very well where to go, and we ended up in Rua do Lavradio , in Lapa neighborhood, looking for a bar to have a couple of drinks. But we were seduced by the atmosphere of an apparently new house in Rua do Lavradio, called Casa Momus.

The soft lightening of the place invited us in and we decided to stay and try this new place.

This restaurant/bar is in a preserved old house, from the 19th century. The decoration is modern and cozy, and the music is relaxing.

The menu is based in mediterranean influences. I’ve tried the bruschettes trio and the asparagus risotto. Both of them very tasty!

Although they recommended for drinks  the Spritz, an italian drink, me and my friends fiancée decided to toast the night with a glass of wine. While the boys, preferred beer.

The happy hour turned out in a lovely dinner, with a combination of tasty food and lively conversation with good friends! We couldn’t make a better choice than Casa Momus for last night.

It is a great option in Lapa, totally different from the samba houses and botecos from the neighborhood. It has a great atmosphere and the prices are quite fair.

I’m definitely planning another visit!!

Drinks and romance in Paris Bar

This week I finally had the chance to know Paris Bar, a bar  with great reviews for its drinks menu in Casa Julieta de Serpa, Praia do Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro.

It was our 11th “1st Date Anniversary”, the perfect occasion to check by ourselves this place which is supposed to serve the best drinks in the city in a well decorated space with a charming and romantic atmosphere.

We tried each of us two different drinks and my favourite was Amour Parfait (Perfect Love), a drink served in a tea cup! Just perfect for our celebration. A gentle bartender came  to our table to serve it and explain the ingredients and how the drinks were elaborated.

It was a perfect night!! Besides being in a great bar, just having the opportunity of spending  some hours only the two of us, me and my husband, was everything we needed to celebrate our love, friendship and marriage.

It was definetely the perfect choice for our date night!!

My Birthday

It was a day filled with surprises!

My birthday began at 6:30 am last monday, and that was one of the biggest surprises of the day!

I was woken up by my husband and son singing Happy Birthday to you! It was a sweet surprise. They gave me chocolate roses, a birthday card and a birthday gift from one of my favourite clothing stores, Checklist.

But why so early? My husband said that it was just to be sure I wouldn’t get up before them.  This was really sweet, because my husband usually don’t wake up early at all! I imagine the effort he had to make to get up before myself.

And then another surprise, my big sister Quiqui dedicated a post for my birthday, in her blog Notas in Fashion, as you can see here.

The rest of the morning was filled with our daily family routine but after lunch I decided not taking my kid to school, I just wanted to spend some time with him, having fun and making things he likes doing. It was nice because my mother made me a surprise visit!

And we three sang happy birthday again to me and ate this delicious brownie chocolate cake!

In the evening another surprise, but that was not a nice one. My boy had a fever and we had to change plans for dinner. Instead of going out for dinner in a new restaurant in Arpoador, we had to order a pizza and  ate at home! It was a little frustrating, but when you have kids, sometimes things just don’t go exactly the way you plan. (The next morning, he had no fever at all, it was just a flu! Thanks God!)

But last night, we had another little celebration. My husband and I went out for drinks with some friends. We went to a bar called Shooters and had a lot of fun chatting, trying new drinks and listening to good music. We had a great time.

It was a wonderful birthday! And I am so thankful for that!

Typical brazilian feijoada

If you happen to be around Cinelandia neighborhood in downtown Rio de Janeiro, consider visiting OsBar for lunch or for drinking a beer to cool down on a hot day.

OsBar is a “boteco” in downtown Rio famous for its delicious and well-served friday feijoada and the ice-coldest beers on earth. OsBar is the point for friday lunchs or happy hour.

Yesterday I was there for lunch with two great girlfriends from College. We had feijoada for lunch, had a very cold Original (the best brazilian beer in my opinion) and caught up all the gossip. It was a great way to start this weekend!

Some tips to enjoy OsBar on a friday:– If you go for lunch and want to avoid the waiting line for a table, arrive around 11:30. Yes it is early, but the place is small and gets crowded quickly!
