October 12th celebrations!

Birthday Cake and brazilian birthday sweets

In Brazil, the October 12th is a national holiday, we celebrate the day of Our Lady of Aparecida, the patroness of Brazil, according to catholic religion. Our Lady of Aparecida is a special saint for my family, my father used to be very devoted to Her and I kind of inherited his faith.

Besides being a religious day to some Brazilians, we also have another big celebration, we celebrate Children’s Day! All around the country, on the October 12th there are many special events dedicated to Children. ,

But  there is a third special reason  for making this date even more special for my family! It is my brother’s birthday! He turned 45 today, but he will always have a children’s heart! He is always making us laugh with his jokes and he just looks like a little boy again when he is playing with my son! I remember when we were kids and he kept calling me “gorda”, which means “fat girl”, which made me feel furious. But I also remember his silly jokes and how we played a lot together. He is not a person that likes celebrating his birthday very much, and lately he is always travelling on his birthday, so I had to wish him Happy Birthday by text messages, but anyway I wish he had a lovely day and that he has the best in his life!!

Turning forty!

Yesterday was my birthday! I turned forty years old! I can’t believe how life goes so fast.I remember when I was a kid and I thought that everyone who was 40 years old were old!

Now I think different!  I see many forties looking so great that I really don’t care about reaching this age! To be sincere, getting old is something that doesn’t scare me, although I know I may change my mind when I start to feel the weight of an advanced age, but there is still a long way until I reach that moment in life.

Anyway, age is a state of mind, and besides the grey hair that now is  making me visit the Hairdressers more frequently to get the hair colored and a backache that is disturbing me lately, I feel myself very young!

I always loved to celebrate my birthday and in the last year I had planned so many things for my 40th birthday ! A birthday party was one of the items of my last year’s bucket list. The party was already arranged in a nice bar in Rio, I had hired a DJ to guarantee good and lively music, so that me and my friends could dance and have fun all night long. But unfortunately unexpected happenings made me change plans. The lost of my father, two months ago, made a celebration like that doesn’t make sense anymore. So I just cancelled everything and decided to have a very intimate and quiet celebration just with my husband and son.

My day began early in the morning, with a nice surprise! My husband and son woke me up singing Happy Birthday and holding this beautiful red roses bouquet. But it was a busy day. My mother and I had a business appointment that lasted almost all the afternoon and I couldn’t enjoy my birthday the way I would like to. At least, I spent the whole afternoon with my mom and after our appointment we did our private celebration in a small cafe close to my apartment, having a cup of cappuccino and a piece of cake.

In the evening, a couple of nice friends came to visit me and I prepared a quick dinner for us. We chatted, toasted with wine and sang happy birthday.  It was a lovely night!

Sister Love

Today is a very special day! Besides being Good Friday, a day filled with all the special meaning behind this Christian date, today is my big sister’s birthday!!

So I dedicate this post to her!! Quiqui, my big sister, the girl behind Notas in Fashion and While Eating Macarons, who loves Paris, macarons and photography, and lives in New York.

I wished I was there by your side to hug you, make a special chocolate cake for you and sing Happy Birthday with our kids! Unfortunately miles and miles keep us apart today, but my heart is always with you, my big sister, my best friend and my inspiration for so many things in life.

Thanks for being the best sister in the world! Love you !!!

As a birthday gift, a special photo from our trip to Paris in 2007. We had a great time together visiting Versailles, taking thousand photos and going on that “Da Vinci Code tour”, do you remember?! I wish that soon we can come back there, now with our kids!!!

Enjoy your day!!!! Happy Birthday!!!

My Birthday

It was a day filled with surprises!

My birthday began at 6:30 am last monday, and that was one of the biggest surprises of the day!

I was woken up by my husband and son singing Happy Birthday to you! It was a sweet surprise. They gave me chocolate roses, a birthday card and a birthday gift from one of my favourite clothing stores, Checklist.

But why so early? My husband said that it was just to be sure I wouldn’t get up before them.  This was really sweet, because my husband usually don’t wake up early at all! I imagine the effort he had to make to get up before myself.

And then another surprise, my big sister Quiqui dedicated a post for my birthday, in her blog Notas in Fashion, as you can see here.

The rest of the morning was filled with our daily family routine but after lunch I decided not taking my kid to school, I just wanted to spend some time with him, having fun and making things he likes doing. It was nice because my mother made me a surprise visit!

And we three sang happy birthday again to me and ate this delicious brownie chocolate cake!

In the evening another surprise, but that was not a nice one. My boy had a fever and we had to change plans for dinner. Instead of going out for dinner in a new restaurant in Arpoador, we had to order a pizza and  ate at home! It was a little frustrating, but when you have kids, sometimes things just don’t go exactly the way you plan. (The next morning, he had no fever at all, it was just a flu! Thanks God!)

But last night, we had another little celebration. My husband and I went out for drinks with some friends. We went to a bar called Shooters and had a lot of fun chatting, trying new drinks and listening to good music. We had a great time.
